Later in life, she took part in a challenging expedition to Africa, joining a group of climbers on a trek to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The journey required intense physical effort, including a steep climb through dense jungle terrain at high altitude.

“I climbed from eight thousand to twelve thousand feet in one day,” she recalled, describing the moment she came face to face with a silverback gorilla just feet away. She said the encounter felt almost prehistoric, calling it “a real experience” that stayed with her and “almost changes your life.”
