The Biggest Lottery Wins in United States History

The Wolverine FLL Club, a four-member lottery group from Oakland County, Michigan, won $1.05 billion in 2021. Their Mega Millions ticket was sold at a Kroger in Novi and matched the January 22 numbers. At the time, it was the largest lottery prize ever awarded in Michigan.

Rather than take the full annuity, the club chose a lump sum of about $776 million before taxes. Members said they planned to give to charity in southeast Michigan, though they kept their identities private. With that much money, the group could divide life-changing fortunes and still leave enormous room for philanthropy.
