#17: Dan Conner Was Nearly Written Off Much Earlier
Long before the final season, writers seriously discussed killing off Dan Conner. The idea came up during the original run as a possible dramatic turning point, especially during periods when the show was experimenting with darker, heavier storylines.
Ultimately, the idea was shelved — largely because John Goodman was too central to the show’s emotional core. Dan wasn’t just Roseanne’s husband; he was the heart of the family. Removing him earlier would’ve fundamentally changed the series, and the risk was deemed too high.
