#18: Fans Tried to Save Sid Fairgate with a Letter Campaign
Don Murray’s departure from Knots Landing hit viewers hard. Many fans were so upset by Sid Fairgate’s exit that they organized a massive letter-writing campaign to CBS, begging the network not to kill the character off after the car crash.
What most viewers didn’t realize was that the decision wasn’t CBS’s. It was Murray’s choice to leave the show. The backlash came from confusion as much as heartbreak — fans blamed the producers, not knowing Sid’s fate was sealed by the actor himself.
