#8: President Gerald Ford’s Pet Liberty
Gerald Ford’s Golden Retriever, Liberty, was a constant companion, frequently photographed by his side. Liberty even had a litter of puppies while at the White House, delighting staff and visitors alike. Her calm, loyal personality matched Ford’s own, giving the family a faithful friend during the turbulence of the 1970s.

The Fords also had a Siamese cat named Shan, who balanced Liberty’s exuberance with a quieter demeanor. Together, Liberty and Shan made the White House feel like a real family home. Their presence reminded Americans that even during challenging political times, simple joys like pets brought warmth and grounding.
