#8: Landlocked Sharks
A special kind of fear comes from knowing something shouldn’t be possible but still preparing for it anyway. Logically, great white sharks don’t belong in a freshwater lake smack in the middle of Michigan—but logic has nothing on an overactive childhood imagination.
One ripple, one oddly shaped shadow, and suddenly you’re the star of a low-budget Jaws reboot in your backyard. It’s the mental gymnastics of fear: “What if this lake is the one exception?” That irrational edge never entirely fades.
