The paintings of Dutch artist Van Gogh can be seen in art galleries all around the world and are easily known to be some of the most famous paintings known to man. But just because we know who he is today doesn’t mean that he was always this famous.

Today his works can sell for up to $100 million, among the most expensive paintings in existence, but Van Gogh did not live to see this happen. He died poor, having sold only one painting and not having any idea of his future great success.
